| | | How to Choose the Right Size |
 | |
The information below is to help you choose the correct size for dog apparel.
Dog apparel comes in a very limited size range and there is a significant difference between sizes
of apparel.
(see photo below). Because of the limit in sizing the measurements listed will fit the range listed.
The item may be larger or smaller fitting on your dog depending where on the size range they fall. Never assume that because you have a small dog they will take a small size.
Different manufactures have different sizes. Each of our dog apparel
items list a size chart for that apparel item only. We include length, widest
girth, actual garment length and on select items neck measurement to help you choose the correct size.
Please read each size chart carefully as most mistakes are made when
measurements are not done or only one measurement is used.
For jackets, coats, sweatshirts etc... it is recommended you
fit the girth first and length second as many of the fabrics have no stretch and
if the girth is too small you will not be able to close the garment. On items
with leg straps such as sweater, pajamas and some coats it is recommended you
fit the length first. Do not order an item with a girth measurement that is
smaller than your dog.
Measure Your Dog with a Cloth Measuring Tape:
1. Measure your dog from base of the neck to base of the tail. This is the
length.
2. Measure your dog's chest at its widest point, which is usually behind the
front legs. This the girth.
3. For dog's with larger than normal necks, measure your dog's neck circumference
as you would a collar. This is the neck.
If your dog is stouter, has a thick coat, broader chest, wider underside or
is at the maximum for the size chart you may want to go up to the next larger
size for a looser fit. Please note the next size up will fit up to the largest
size range listed. For long back dogs such as a Dachshund it is recommended you
fit the girth first.
